Looking this company up turns up five names — Zhipu, 智谱, 北京智譜華章科技股份有限公司, Z.ai and GLM — plus ChatGLM and a mailbox on a sixth domain. They are one company and the university lab behind it; one name is what the Hong Kong exchange prints on the security. This page sorts out which is which, and names the surface each fact can be checked on. All statements are as of 13 August 2026.
HKEX's quote page for stock code 02513, read on 13 August 2026, prints the English listed name verbatim as "Z.AI CO., LTD. - H SHARES" and the Stock Short Name as "Z.AI". The Chinese version of the same page prints 北京智譜華章科技股份有限公司 — simplified 北京智谱华章科技股份有限公司, "Beijing Zhipu Huazhang Technology Co., Ltd."
That is the whole problem in two lines: the English listed name is Z.AI Co., Ltd., the Chinese legal name is still 智譜華章 (Zhipu Huazhang), and they are one entity.
A second exchange surface confirms it. HKEXnews, the exchange's filing site, answers an issuer search for "Z.AI" with {"more":"1","stockInfo":[{"stockId":1000286748,"code":"02513","name":"Z.AI"}]}, verbatim — and that one was fetched directly.
The same page gives the listing date, 8 January 2026 (Chinese page: 2026年1月8日), a primary listing, board lot 100, and the classification Information Technology - Software & Services - Digital Solution Services. The - H SHARES suffix marks a mainland-incorporated joint stock company listing a share class in Hong Kong.
The rename is a split rather than one event:
That evidence carries a caveat. HKEX's company profile reads: "Z.AI Co Ltd, formerly Knowledge Atlas Technology JSC Ltd is a China-based company primarily engaged in the provision of large model-related services." That paragraph is vendor-supplied text hosted on an exchange page, not a company filing — HKEX-published, not company-attested. ("Knowledge Atlas" translates 智谱.)
No date for any of it can be established, so none appears here. A checked negative, not a gap: z.ai/about, z.ai/about-us and z.ai/blog return 404, the English investor-relations address returns 404, and the 新聞動態 news section carried no 更名 or 品牌升級 item. A dated absence beats a date nobody can source.
The company itself puts the two together anyway: its news page carries the headline 智谱(02513.HK)公布2025年度业绩发布会安排.
GLM is not a ticker. It stands for "General Language Model" — the original repository is described in those three words — and names a model family; ChatGLM is the earlier chat line in it, GLM-4 and GLM-5 later generations.
The origin is documented on the lab's own property. GitHub organisation THUDM — display name THUKEG, location "FIT Building, Tsinghua University" — carries this bio: "ChatGLM, GLM-4, CogVLM, CodeGeeX, CogView, ImageReward, CogVideoX | CogDL, GraphMAE, AMiner | Zhipu.ai (Z.ai) & Knowledge Engineering Group (KEG)". One line names the company and the Tsinghua lab together, writes Zhipu.ai (Z.ai) as one thing, and explains the fifth name: AMiner, the lab's academic-graph product, whose domain hosts the company's investor-relations mailbox.
Both organisations are live — the newer zai-org, display name "Z.ai", hosts the GLM series while THUDM keeps the research repositories — and on Hugging Face the same zai-org displays as "Z.ai (Zhipu AI)".
As presented on 13 August 2026, the company markets GLM-5.2 with a "1M context window", and calls itself "A leading independent LLM provider in China" (中国大型独立大模型厂商) — its own marketing, quoted as such.
H shares trade on HKEX under 02513; this page names no broker and explains no purchase route. Two dated exchange observations:
Both carry a timestamp and an exchange on purpose: the Chinese version of the page, read minutes apart, showed HKD 1,269.000. A price is useful only with a where and a when attached. No initial offer price could be obtained from any exchange surface, so nothing here is compared against one.
The share count carries a trap. HKEX prints 241,094,605 shares in issue as at 31 July 2026 and a market capitalisation of HK$307.39B — but the first multiplied by the quoted price gives the second exactly, so that figure covers the listed H-share class only, not the whole company; an issuer of this kind also has unlisted domestic shares, whose number the page does not give. Whether an A-share or other mainland listing exists is not established in either direction. Structures vary: our OpenAI explainer covers a company with no exchange listing at all.
Typing "Zai" into a US market search reaches a different company. The SEC's own submissions record for CIK 1704292 returns, verbatim, "name": "Zai Lab Ltd", "tickers": ["ZLAB"], "exchanges": ["Nasdaq"] — a Shanghai-headquartered biopharmaceutical company, unrelated to this one.
On whether ZAI or GLM exist as US tickers, this page makes no claim in either direction. Both symbol files consulted were truncated in transit: one stopped around the letter C and never reached G or Z, and the other reported Zai Lab absent, which the record above proves false. A "not found" from a file cut off before the relevant letter is a failed read, not a finding.
A reader who has just learned that the exchange prints Z.AI will search WEEX for ZAI or Z.AI and find nothing — because WEEX's market for this name is ticketed ZHIPU, the older name.
That is checkable. Requesting each candidate ticker's futures page on 13 August 2026 and reading the page title returned "ZHIPU perpetual at 162.44", against a title ending "at 0" for ZAI, Z.AI, CHATGLM and ZHIPUAI alike. Two invented tickers, run as controls, returned the same "at 0" — so that is what absence looks like, not a market without a price.
A separate market ticketed GLM also exists, and the same probe returned 0.08765 for it. A sub-dollar figure is inconsistent with a contract referencing a share price of that order, and what it references was not identified. A model family's name on a trading venue is not evidence about which company the venue references.
The instrument ticketed ZHIPU is a perpetual futures contract. It references a price and conveys no shareholding, no shareholder rights and no claim on the shares listed in Hong Kong. That warning works harder here than on a page about a private company: the underlying really is buyable, which makes it easier to believe the contract is a route to owning it. It is not. Where leverage is used, it magnifies losses, and the contract specification was not verified for this page. Our Anthropic explainer runs the same method where no exchange record exists at all.
The company publishes an investor-relations page at zhipuai.cn. It is served in traditional Chinese on an otherwise simplified-Chinese site, following Hong Kong filing convention, and there is no English version — that address returns 404. The 404 page still renders its footer, which is where the company's own English legal name, "Z.AI Co., Ltd.", was read.
The prospectus is listed there as 北京智譜華章科技股份有限公司招股書, dated 30/12/2025, but the file could not be retrieved — the document links are injected by JavaScript — so nothing here comes from it. Its existence and date are citable; its contents are not.
The same page lists a 2025 annual report dated 19/04/2026, and corporate-governance documents — articles of association, board committee terms of reference, the list of directors and their roles — all dated 07/01/2026, the day before the shares listed. That is how a Hong Kong listing works: the governance apparatus is in place before the first day of trading. What the company said about the listing itself is not stated here: the announcements section was not readable without JavaScript. Investor contact is published as ir@aminer.cn, in Haidian District, Beijing — the AMiner thread again.
Is Z.ai the same company as Zhipu?
Yes. HKEX prints the English listed name "Z.AI CO., LTD. - H SHARES" and the Chinese legal name 北京智譜華章科技股份有限公司 for one security; the English name changed, the Chinese legal name did not.
What is Z.ai's stock code, and where does it trade?
02513 on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, as H shares, listed 8 January 2026 — returned for the name Z.AI by HKEX's quote page and by HKEXnews on 13 August 2026.
Is GLM a stock ticker?
No. GLM stands for "General Language Model" and names the company's model family, not a listed security.
Is Zai Lab the same as Z.ai?
No. Zai Lab Ltd trades on Nasdaq as ZLAB and is a Shanghai-headquartered biopharmaceutical company (SEC submissions record, CIK 1704292).
Does the WEEX market give me Z.AI shares?
No. That market is a perpetual futures contract ticketed ZHIPU, conveying no shareholding, no shareholder rights and no claim on the shares listed in Hong Kong.
[CTA]WEEX lists a perpetual futures contract for this name, ticketed ZHIPU rather than Z.AI. It references a price and conveys no shareholding, no shareholder rights and no claim on the shares listed in Hong Kong. Where leverage is used, it magnifies losses.
That perpetual is also the only WEEX market on this company, which is worth saying because for a listed company it need not have been. Some listed names carry several instruments here at once: SpaceX, for example, has a perpetual and two separate tokenized spot pairs. This company has one, under its former name. That was checked against WEEX's full spot listing rather than by loading individual pages — a page that fails to render a price looks identical to one for a market that does not exist, so an absence read that way proves nothing.

Read through a render proxy, flagged because it matters: hkex.com.hk and zhipuai.cn are JavaScript-rendered and sec.gov refuses a direct request, so all three were read through a third-party rendering service — and one such request returned content unrelated to the address asked for, and was discarded. The load-bearing identity facts are therefore corroborated on directly fetched surfaces: HKEXnews, GitHub, Hugging Face.
