Vals AI has secured $40 million in Series A funding and expanded its AI evaluation product line. Following the investment, the company's valuation has been assessed at $400 million. This round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from existing investors 8VC, Pear VC, and Bloomberg Beta, as well as new investors HRT Ventures and Next Ladder Ventures. Vals AI plans to use the funds to expand its benchmarking and evaluation infrastructure for measuring the performance of AI models and agents. The company evaluates models based on the work of lawyers, bankers, engineers, and doctors, using a private test set to reduce the number of problems in the public test set. The evaluation results have been cited in model cards from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, and xAI. The new product, Vals Smith, is a customized coding benchmark tool that allows users to connect public or private repositories and select models and agents to compare pass rates by task. Additionally, it includes the Frontier Risk Benchmark and the RSI Index developed in collaboration with CoreWeave, as well as initial work related to cyber benchmarks and mental health. Vals AI reported that its revenue is expected to increase eightfold compared to the entire year of 2025, with its customer base doubling and team size tripling. This funding round highlights the growing importance of verifiable evaluation systems in the generative AI market.
