US Court Seizes Some Virtual Assets Linked to North Korean IT Workers
A U.S. court partially granted the government’s seizure request for virtual assets related to money laundering and evasion of sanctions by North Korean IT workers. On the 3rd, a judge from the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. stated that North Korean IT workers laundered money by obtaining employment with false identity information and receiving wages in digital assets. Investigations revealed that they were paid in USDC and USDT, and to conceal the source of the received assets, they moved funds through multiple wallets. The U.S. government claimed that these funds were linked to organizations under the North Korean Ministry of Defense. The court determined that the seized funds from a digital asset address starting with '0x81c4' were connected to the evasion structure of North Korean IT workers. It was confirmed that approximately 158,122.85 USDC and 54,474 USDT flowed into this address. However, the court did not allow the full seizure of the digital assets requested by the U.S. government. The U.S. government filed a civil forfeiture lawsuit regarding the related assets on June 5, 2025, and since no parties claiming rights appeared afterward, the court clerk registered the case as unopposed.
