Stellar, based on Stellar Lumens (XLM), is preparing Protocol 28. This update focuses on strengthening the Soroban smart contract functionality and improving network consensus processing performance. Protocol 28 is marked as 'testnet, date to be determined' and includes adapter-related CAP-83, CAP-85, and CAP-86. The testnet implementation date has not yet been finalized, but the stable version of Stellar Core will be released on August 13, with infrastructure and SDK releases occurring between August 13 and 21. The testnet voting is scheduled for August 28 at 2 AM, and the mainnet voting is set for September 17 at 2 AM. Protocol 28 aims to simplify contract creation and data transfer processes, and it relates to the validity of the existing Soroban credential address method, indicating a transition in authentication formats. Stellar applied Protocol 27 to the mainnet on July 8, and this upgrade continues the trend of enhancing contract execution and data processing capabilities. The Stellar Development Foundation announced that the network has recorded a cumulative total of 22.5 billion operations with a 99.99% uptime. Protocol 28 aims to integrate institutional assets and smart contract functionalities, emphasizing the stability of contract execution and consistency of development tools. Currently, the testnet schedule is undecided, with testnet voting on August 28 and mainnet voting on September 17.
