Say thirty-three. Donald Trump's approval rating has reached its lowest level since his return to the White House. According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, 33% of Americans approve of his actions, while 64% disapprove. This result, down two points from the previous survey, matches the low point Trump reached in December 2017. With less than three months until the midterm elections, this political fragility could complicate the adoption of the latest legislation awaited by the crypto industry.
The survey was conducted online over four days among 1,166 American adults, with a margin of error of three points. About 80% of respondents believe that the war against Iran will last a long time, while only 20% think it was worth it.
Disapproval also transcends partisan divides. Only half of Republican voters now consider the conflict justified. The rise in fuel prices and disruptions in global oil trade further amplify the discontent related to the cost of living.
For the markets, this war creates an unfavorable environment for risky assets. Persistently high oil prices can fuel inflation and reduce the Federal Reserve's room for maneuver. Bitcoin remains exposed to a tightening of liquidity, even though public deficits and the weakening dollar continue to support, in the longer term, the thesis of scarce assets.
However, the poll does not allow for predicting the outcome of the election. The two-point drop remains within the margin of error, but the overall level of disapproval is a concerning signal for Republican candidates.
Part of Donald Trump's crypto legacy is already protected by law. The GENIUS Act, which regulates payment stablecoins, was enacted in July 2025. A Republican defeat in the midterm elections would therefore not be enough to annul it.
But the situation is quite different for the CLARITY Act. This legislation, which aims to clarify the division of responsibilities between the SEC and the CFTC, passed the Senate Banking Committee in May 2026 by a vote of 15 to 9, but is still awaiting a final vote in the Senate. A change in majority could alter its timeline or content.
The strategic reserve of bitcoins relies on a presidential decree signed in March 2025. The elections in November will not directly eliminate it, as Donald Trump will remain president, but a hostile Congress could strengthen the political and budgetary control over the initiative.
The upcoming elections will have a significant impact on American crypto policy, and thus, by extension, on global market prices in the sector. The growing aversion that the occupant of the White House evokes among his people could lead him to lose these crucial midterms and perhaps provide us with a low point in the fall?
