Alibaba Unveils Qwen 3.8 Max Preview
Prefer us on GoogleAlibaba has announced the Qwen 3.8 Max preview. This model is a multimodal model with 2.4 trillion parameters, provided in a callable form on the platform. The public weights for Qwen 3.8 Max are expected to be announced soon. Currently, Qwen 3.6-27B remains the official benchmark, while Qwen 3.8-27B has not been confirmed. The Qwen API platform does not list the Qwen 3.8-27B item. The Qwen 3.8 Max preview can be used for code writing, data analysis, office tasks, and visual understanding. Alibaba explained that this model has shown initial test results for Fable 5, but no independent benchmarks have been provided. Developers are showing a strong interest in medium-sized models and emphasize the need for models that can be used in local environments. However, concerns about the quality of the model's responses have been raised on V2EX and Linux.do. The Qwen 3.8 Max preview also revealed integration issues with tools in its early stages. Alibaba's Qwen strategy emphasizes a combination of open weights and cloud distribution, highlighting the importance of the conditions for distributing public weights.
