U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bansen announced that the U.S. Mint will produce a commemorative coin with a face value of $1 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The coin will have a gold-tone appearance but will not contain actual gold or precious metals. The obverse features a portrait of President Trump, along with the words "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the dates 1776-2026; the reverse displays the Great Seal of the United States with an eagle emblem, marked with "$1" and "250". It is expected to be issued this fall. This move breaks the tradition of not featuring sitting presidents on U.S. currency, with Bansen calling it a "lasting symbol of patriotism" and a "commemoration of our legacy of freedom."
