TSMC will donate 250 million yen for the recovery of the areas affected by the Kumamoto earthquake in Japan. Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing (JASM), TSMC's production subsidiary in Kumamoto, has gradually resumed operations after confirming the safety of its buildings. The earthquake occurred on July 28, with a maximum intensity of 7 observed according to the Japanese Prime Minister's Office. Immediately after the earthquake, JASM evacuated its employees and conducted safety checks and structural inspections of its buildings. TSMC has resumed factory operations after confirming the safety of all employees, and detailed equipment inspections and assessments of production impacts are ongoing. JASM, in which TSMC holds a majority stake, plans to have a production capacity of over 100,000 12-inch wafers per month by February 2024. Tokyo Electron and Sony are also conducting safety inspections, and the specific impacts on the semiconductor business have yet to be confirmed. The safety and stability of the wafer production facilities are expected to affect the scale of production disruptions.
