SEC Approves Extended Operating Hours for Night Stock Trading Information Processor
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved a plan to extend the operating hours of the CTA and CQ plan information processor to facilitate expanded night trading in the U.S. stock market. The approved plan extends the processing times for consolidated quotes and trade information from 9 PM Eastern Time on Sundays to 8 PM on Fridays. The SEC approved this item under Release No. 34-105779, File No. SR-CTA/CQ-2026-01, which was submitted on January 12, 2026, and published in the Federal Register on January 27. The previous operating hours were from 4 AM to 8 PM, Monday through Friday, and the new operating hours will include a one-hour technical check from 8 PM on Monday to Thursday. Some exchanges have changed their rules to allow trading outside of operating hours, but it is stipulated that trading should not commence until the stock data plan is ready for extended trading hours. This approval is related to the adoption of rules associated with 24X National Exchange, NYSE Arca, NASDAQ, and Chicago Options Exchange EDGX. Trades executed outside of regular hours will be marked with a '.T', and operations will be suspended on holidays. In Korean time, during U.S. daylight saving time, operations will run from 10 AM on Monday to 9 AM on Saturday.
