Queues of Grain Transport Wagons at the Western Border Have Tripled
At the end of July, the number of grain transport wagons near the western border crossings increased from 58 to 201 units. The queues are growing despite a decrease in the volume of agricultural products being transferred across the border, indicating increased competition for infrastructure capacity. The average daily volume of grain and meal transfers in July was 135 wagons, which is 20% less than at the end of June. Over the 28 days of July, 1.89 million tons of grain cargo were transported by rail, which is 30.2% less than in June but 82.3% more than in the same period last year. A total of 1.564 million tons of grain and milling products, 165.4 thousand tons of cake and meal, and 90.5 thousand tons of vegetable oil were directed for export. Sea ports remain the main channel for grain exports, accounting for 88% of rail transport, while only 12% is exported through land borders. At the end of the month, railway logistics towards the ports of Greater Odessa significantly slowed down: the number of grain wagons fell to 1,356, the average daily unloading decreased to 690 wagons, and the loading dropped to 580 wagons per day. The volume of transport to sea ports amounted to 1.38 million tons in July, which is 37% less than in June due to conventional restrictions and overcrowding of port terminals.
