Qualcomm Chip Prices Increase Starting September 1
Qualcomm announced a double-digit increase in chip prices effective September 1, applicable to chips shipped after that date. The company informed customers in July that it could no longer absorb rising costs from suppliers. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon stated that the price hike is necessary to pass on the significant cost increases the company is facing. Apple continues to source modem chips from Qualcomm for the iPhone 17 models while also shifting towards developing its own modems. Qualcomm expects revenue from Apple to decline faster than previously anticipated, with an approximate 50% drop from the September quarter to the December quarter, as supply constraints will reduce Qualcomm's component share in the iPhone 18 series. Qualcomm also supplies mobile chips to manufacturers like Samsung, and the price increase will cover its product line while negotiating separately with customers.
