The state of Rio Grande do Sul occupies a pioneering and historically significant position in the Bitcoin ecosystem in Brazil and Latin America. The state combines community pioneering, leadership in financial education, technical innovation, and real adoption experiments in local commerce.
To evolve the local ecosystem towards Bitcoin, the local community organizes the BitDevs event, now in its 17th edition, in the capital Porto Alegre.
"This is a unique opportunity to sow intelligence in a bear market and build the infrastructure that will support the next cycle," said Diogo Mury, leader of Go BTC, in an interview with Livecoins.
Porto Alegre highlights BitDevs and invites everyone from experienced individuals to beginners in Bitcoin for discussions.
The state of Rio Grande do Sul was the birthplace of one of the first community initiatives for Bitcoin in South America, distinguished by the emergence of traditional meetups in Porto Alegre that have gathered enthusiasts and developers for years.
The state has projected fundamental names and references in economic analysis and the demystification of the asset, fostering debate on sound money, Austrian economics, and individual sovereignty at the national level.
The city of Rolante, in the interior of RS, has become one of the largest global landmarks for practical hyperbitcoinization. With hundreds of merchants integrated into the Lightning Network (restaurants, inns, services, and street commerce), the region has transformed into a global case of daily circulation and acceptance of the currency.
Thus, the capital hosts technical meetings in the format of Socratic Seminars, focusing on the development and in-depth study of Bitcoin Core, Lightning Network, applied cryptography, and distributed systems.
The topics for the discussion round are suggested by the community in the weeks leading up to the meeting. This means they can work on pull requests for Bitcoin Core, LND, Core Lightning, and other repositories, as well as take a look at network statistics, academic papers, and trending technical articles.
At the end, there is space for anyone who wants to showcase open-source projects, research, and news from the ecosystem, concluding with a Q&A session.
An important note from Mury is that the discussion part is never recorded, to ensure an open debate atmosphere under the Chatham House Rule.
Additionally, it's good to arrive with a basic understanding of Bitcoin fundamentals to make the most of it, but beginners are also very welcome.
"No one was born knowing. Want to suggest a topic or present something? Just open an Issue or Pull Request in our GitHub repository (poabitdevs/poabitdevs.org). The agenda for the day will be posted there, and all past meeting history is archived there too," concludes the organizer.
