Poll: 50% of Americans Blame Government Shutdown on Republicans, 47% Blame Democrats
BlockBeats News, November 13, Wednesday local time, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a funding bill aimed at resupplying a food aid program disrupted during the shutdown, providing back pay to hundreds of thousands of federal employees, and funding to restore normal operation of the air traffic control system. After the House passed the bill with a vote of 222 to 209, the 43-day, record-breaking U.S. federal government shutdown is about to officially end, although the two parties are still at odds over federal healthcare subsidies.
The bill will be sent to U.S. President Trump for signing. The House passed the bill on Wednesday, with Trump's support largely holding the Republican unity in the face of strong Democratic opposition. What angered the Democrats was that their long-standing standoff initiated by their Senate colleagues failed to reach an agreement to extend federal healthcare subsidies. The Senate had previously passed the bill, and although both parties blamed each other, it seems that neither has achieved a clear victory. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday found that 50% of Americans blame the government shutdown on the Republican Party, while 47% blame the Democratic Party. (Golden Finance)
