Laser Digital Japan has completed its registration as a cryptocurrency trading service provider under Japan's Payment Services Act this week, with registration number 00032. The company has also joined the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association, ending a nearly four-year period without new industry participants. The license covers six types of cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and Shiba Inu, all of which are included in the association's "green list." Initially, Laser Digital Japan will provide liquidity for licensed cryptocurrency businesses in Japan, while the launch date for trading services aimed at professional investors has not yet been announced. Japanese regulations require the separation of customer assets from company assets, with at least 95% of customer cryptocurrency stored in offline cold wallets, verified through annual audits. The license does not cover cryptocurrency derivatives and does not allow Laser Digital Japan to initiate exchange-traded funds; major adjustments to Japan's cryptocurrency regulatory framework are expected to be implemented in the fiscal year 2027.
