Last week, the number of initial jobless claims in the U.S. slightly increased to 199,000, marking the third consecutive week below 200,000, indicating resilience in the labor market. According to data from the U.S. Department of Labor, for the week ending August 1, initial jobless claims remained essentially unchanged, with the four-week average dropping to its lowest level since September 2022. The number of continuing claims rose to 1.8 million, in line with expectations. Economists anticipate that the July non-farm payroll report will show healthy job growth, as consumer spending continues to support economic activity.
