ESMA has set September 3, 2026, as the start date for the new weekly report on commodity derivatives. This date marks a significant operational change for EU market participants, as from then on, formats, timelines, and technical tools for communicating positions on commodity derivatives will change. The new commodity derivatives position reporting regime will become operational, replacing the current reporting obligations with a weekly cadence. Involved parties will need to submit weekly position reports following the updated ESMA reporting requirements, in accordance with EU market regulation. Reporting must comply with the technical specifications and validation rules of XML schema version 2.0, the new standard for data transmission. The initial postponement of the debut was decided to allow for adequate technical and operational preparation for operators.
