Decline in Traffic Through the Strait of Hormuz, Increase in Traffic Through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait

On July 25, Kpler reported that on July 23, the shipping traffic in two key maritime corridors in the Middle East showed a divergence. The traffic through the Strait of Hormuz significantly decreased, with only 6 vessels passing through on the 23rd, a drop of 60% compared to the previous day. Except for one vessel, all others used the route designated by Iran. Meanwhile, on the same day, 49 vessels completed their transit through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, showing a recovery from previous levels, including 4 vessels that turned off their Automatic Identification Systems to engage in "dark shipping." Kpler noted that some vessels that had previously turned back due to safety risks in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea have resumed navigation and completed their passage, although some vessels remain in a holding pattern after turning back. Currently, international shipping companies are still assessing the regional security situation, and overall shipping activities are characterized by a "cautious but selective recovery."
