The daily trading volume of decentralized exchanges (DEX) surged from $3.3 billion last week to a peak of $12.9 billion. This represents an increase of nearly four times, with meme coin trading also showing signs of recovery. The trading activity occurred within ecosystems related to Base, Solana, Hyperliquid, and Robinhood. Some tokens from Solana and Hyperliquid saw weekly gains exceeding tenfold. However, this movement is specific to certain tokens and cannot be generalized as a rise in the overall meme coin market. Unlike centralized exchanges, DEX allows users to connect their wallets and exchange tokens on-chain, meaning that an increase in trading affects the liquidity and fee flow of specific chains. Trading centered around meme coins is characterized by high price volatility, and the increase in trading volume may be a result of a mix of long-term demand and short-term speculative interest. Even with the rise in DEX trading volume, it does not surpass the total trading volume of centralized exchanges (CEX), and the figures may vary depending on the aggregation criteria. This data can be interpreted as a signal of recovery in DEX market activity, but the sustainability of this recovery should be verified through subsequent trading volumes and liquidity flows across different chains.
