Court Rejects Woman's Claim After Failed Crypto Investment
A woman demanded back €3,890 after a failed crypto investment through an acquaintance who was supposed to invest €3,000 for her. The court ruled that it was not proven that the man had promised a refund. The woman claimed that the man assured her that she would not incur any risk and that she would get her investment back in case of a loss. The man denied this promise and stated that he was only helping as a favor. The magistrate in Maastricht ruled that the woman could not substantiate her story. A WhatsApp message in which the man made a promise was deemed too vague. The woman also claimed that the man had overwhelmed her, but the man asserted that the arrangement had been made in advance. The judge emphasized that investing carries risks and that the man is not a professional investor. The woman received nothing back and must pay €720 in legal costs. In a similar case in The Hague, a man was required to repay because he used the money for himself, which is legally assessed differently.
