Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas stated that the recent Coldcard hardware wallet hack may make spot Bitcoin ETFs more appealing to some investors, particularly long-term BTC holders. Balchunas noted that ETF issuers and custodians, being large financial institutions with decades of experience in managing client assets, could be perceived as having an edge over smaller firms like Coldcard, which employs five people. He acknowledged that while there is no assurance that investors would avoid losses if an ETF custodian were hacked, such an event would likely lead to an immediate regulatory investigation. The Coldcard incident resulted in reported losses of approximately 1816 BTC due to a code flaw, prompting the company to advise users to install a security update, generate a new seed, and transfer their funds, as the security threat persists.
