On July 16, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated in the podcast "Nikhil Kamath" that the gap between open source models and cutting-edge models may only be six months, with inference costs potentially reduced by over 99%. He suggested that a significant amount of workloads may shift to cheaper models in the future. Armstrong pointed out that the real beneficiaries of most value may not be the large model companies, but rather the infrastructure providers such as chip and energy companies. He compared the current AI boom to the eras of cryptocurrency, the internet, and railroads, believing that valuations may experience bubbles and corrections, but as long as there is real value underlying, the industry will grow again after adjustments.
