American Crypto Bill Faces Years of Delay, Vote on September 15
A significant American crypto bill, the CLARITY Act, may face years of delays if Congress does not reach an agreement soon. Senator Cynthia Lummis warns that the next opportunity may not come until 2030. The Senate will vote on September 15 regarding the further consideration of the bill, which requires 60 votes to pass. The legislation aims to provide clearer rules for crypto companies in the U.S. The House of Representatives approved the bill in July 2025 with 294 votes in favor and 134 against. In May, the proposal received support from a Senate committee with 15 votes for and 9 against. Lummis emphasizes that if the bill is not passed now, years of jobs, investments, and tax revenues could be lost. Last week, the process was complicated when the House of Representatives canceled 2 scheduled work weeks at the end of September. The CLARITY Act is intended to clarify the responsibilities of regulators, with the SEC overseeing securities and the CFTC taking a larger role in other digital assets. The CFTC is working on an alternative plan for crypto regulations in case the bill is not passed. Even if the vote on September 15 is positive, the bill still needs to go through the Senate before final approval can be granted.
